Super Bowl XLIII Art Unveiling with Brian Griese

January 31st, 2009

Great times on Thursday night with Brian Griese at Nuance Gallery here in Tampa. It was amazing. I had never met Brian before and he's such a gentleman. I was honored to have him there with me and we raised some funds for a great cause…. Brian's charity, Judi's House. It's mission is to support and aid grieving children who have lost a parent or family member. Brian is obviously passionate about the cause and very involved. It was inspiring to listen to him talk about working with kids to steer them in the right direction after what is probably the hardest thing they will go through at their young ages.

Award-Winning Bay News 9 anchor Melissa Eichman was our fine emcee and Miss Tampa USA 2009 Lees Garcia joined us for the unveiling….i'm grateful to both of them…two wonderful ladies!

Live from the Super Bowl

January 29th, 2009

It's Thursday, but it already feels like Sunday! I arrived in Tampa on Monday afternoon and haven't stopped since. It's been great. We hit the road running on Tuesday morning with a 7:30 AM radio interview on WFLA (FOX). I don't get to do radio as often as i would like…being that my art is VISUAL…but we had a great time. The crew there is a lot of fun and i enjoyed talking to them. We left from there and went over to Nuance Gallery where i was interviewed by Bill Ratliff, the anchor of the local NBC affiliate's news programs…another great guy and i enjoyed the interview. Tuesday night was a benefit for the Jewish National Fund at Nuance Gallery…..a nice pre-Super Bowl event.

On Wednesday, i hadt an early-morning (re: 5:30AM!) live shot on the local CBS affiliate from the Stadium. It was DARK…but a good spot. From there, we went over to Daytime Tampa where i painted live on air for an hour. We were outside and i actually got a sunburn!

Last night i did another Romeo y Julieta Cigar Signing for the Museum Edition Humidor at Tampa Humidor here in Tampa. Miss Tampa and Miss Plant City joined me there and i met so many nice people…i had a lot of fun there and … we sold a lot of cigars! :-)

This morning was more media….and tonight is the show at Nuance Gallery. Tampa Bay Quarterback, Brian Griese is co-hosting with me and we'll be donating a portion of the sales from the show to his charity, Judi's House.

In between somewhere – i'm not sure how – i got over to St. Petersburg to visit the Salvador Dali Museum. I loved it and will blog about it separately…later! Now it's off the the NFL Experience! Hope to see some of you there.

Baseball Blog: “The Deal is on Strike Three”

January 22nd, 2009

Rudy Saviano was in the studio a few weeks ago. We're talking about working together to increase exposure for my hand-painted baseballs. He has some great ideas and I'm looking forward to working with him. He happened to mention to Fran and Julie in the office that he had co-written a children's baseball book……we learned first hand what a good storyteller Rudy is because he told us about how he got the legendary Bob Feller to write the introduction. Then Tom Seaver came on board to author the foreword. What a great story. Within days, Rudy sent us a copy of his book. I'd like to share it with you. It's pretty amazing…the previously untold story of the role that Casey's son played in that fateful game in Mudville.

Through this book, Rudy shows us again how life's lessons can be taught through art and cultural stories can be passed through generations by art…all kinds of art….books & literature, paintings, music, poetry, photography, etc.

Here's what Bob Feller writes on the back of the book: “I have never seen a baseball book that teaches family values and life's lessons to children as does 'The Deal is on Strike Three.' Parents should read this book and discuss the lessons it teaches with their children. I'm very proud to be part of it.”

You can read more about the book and order it from Rudy's website at www.thedealisonstrikethree.com.

Enjoy!

Super Bowl Week – Taste of the NFL

January 18th, 2009

One of the events I will be participating in during Super Bowl week is the annual Taste of the NFL. Celebrating its 18th anniversary, this is one of the hottest tickets in town during every Super Bowl. The Taste was started by a wonderful man named Wayne Kostroski and he still heads the event today. Top chefs from each of the NFL team cities are joined by current and retired NFL players and a variety of celebrities. The chefs, each of whom is joined by a player, whip up a selection of tasty dishes for the evenings guests who are free to sample the food, drink the fantastic selection of wines on hand, bid on incredible auction items and meet and greet the players on hand. The evening is completed with some great entertainment and everyone has a fantastic time. The goal? To raise money to help fight hunger in America. The proceeds from the evening are donated to a variety of causes locally and nationally, beginning with one that’s specifically affiliated with the Super Bowl host city – this year it will be Second Harvest of Tampa Bay. Since it’s inception, the Taste of the NFL has raised more than $8 million in an effort to help tackle hunger and homelessness.

I am proud to have taken part in the last four Taste of the NFL events. Once again this year, we’ll be bringing my entire Super Bowl/NFL art collection to the Taste. I’ll do a free poster signing and we’ll have the artwork available for sale with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Taste. This year’s event takes place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg and features an appearance by Tom Colocchio of Bravo’s “Top Chefs” and entertainment by the legendary Max Weinberg and the Weinberg 7. If you’re going to be in town, this is one event you definitely don’t want to miss. The food is incredible! Trust me on that one! I hope to see you there. You can get more information and purchase tickets at www.tasteofthenfl.com

Art Fair London

January 14th, 2009

The 21st Annual London Art Fair is occuring this week in England. My French agent, Galerie Artima was one of 100 galleries selected to exhibit. I'm thrilled to be included in his display and from what I hear the first day was lively and a lot of fun. I wish I could be there myself, but seeing as how i just got off the plane from Japan (more to come on that later), i think i'll stay put for a little while….at least until i leave for Super Bowl week on the 26th. Anyway, if you're in the area…stop by and say hello to Olivier or visit the London Art Fair website for more info.

Super Bowl XLIII Pop Art

January 12th, 2009

I wish I could have been glued to my television set this weekend, but I was out of the country. Admittedly, I'm not happy that my New York Giants are not in it anymore. I'm especially sorry for my friend Justin Tuck who I hear played his heart out. He's a true gentleman and an incredible competitor. Something tells me there will be plenty more rings for his fingers before he's done!

I'll be heading to Tampa myself on January 27th and I'm looking forward to taking part in my ninth Super Bowl celebration week. I'll be doing a gallery show at Nuance Galleries, a Cigar signing, appearing at the NFL Experience, and signing at The Taste of the NFL. I've done a new limited edition print, open edition poster, and hand-painted equipment for this Super Bowl. You can read more about my artwork and where I'll be when in Tampa on fazzino.com.

I look forward to seeing many of you there!

I'm always interested in Super Bowl predictions…so tell me yours!

Snow in Paris

January 9th, 2009

Our friends from Galerie Artima in Paris sent us pictures of the snow there earlier this week. It's rare for the snow to actually stick there. We were amazed by their reaction since we're from New York and having ICE STORMS here now! :-) We thought we'd share the pictures with you….. Julie.

Hello Ann and Julie – We hope you are fine. We had the surprise to discover Paris under the snow yesterday. As this is very unusual, we cannot resist to send you some pictures from the Place des Vosges in his white coat. Have a nice day!

Kind Regards,

Odile

A Surprise Pop Art Visitor From Finland!

January 7th, 2009

In my New Year's Blog, i wrote about how having my pop art shown in Finland for the first time in 2008 was the culmination of a lifelong dream for me…and for my mother :-) . Well, yesterday, we had a wonderful visitor in the studio…Tuule Makinen of Galleria Dix in Helsinki….she was in the United States visiting her sister and some friends and she came to the studio with her friend – famous Finnish jazz musician Hannu Vihunen. I had met Tuule in Finland because she is the wonderful gallery owner who took the chance on my work and found it successful. She is planning another exhibition in 2009 and now has a steady Fazzino pop art collection on display in her gallery.

What a firecracker! I gave her a tour of the studio, showed her how my art is created, and brainstormed some new pieces for the Finnish market. She also filled me in a little more about what to expect in Pori when i attend the Pori Jazz Festival as the official artist in July.

Our conversation was interestingly universal. It was very interesting to talk to her about…well..the art of selling art. It really is the same all over the world. Art is a passion. And selling it and marketing it are really nothing more than expressing your own passion for an artist or a piece of art. Tuule talked about how she tries to related to her customers. She knows when something “speaks” to them…when a piece of art elicits an emotional response…that art appreciation is all about finding yourself IN the artwork…it's about your own experience rendered in the artwork. So selling artwork isn't about “selling” at all. It's about matching people with works that are meant for them….works that make them feel something….it's spiritual.

That's the kind of person i want representing my artwork. She understands why i paint….what i'm trying to achieve…that connection…the relationship i want to build between my artwork and the collector….Thank you Tuule!
