“I am so looking forward to being down in Fort Lauderdale this weekend,” stated Charles from his studio in New York. “We’ve all been working on this project for about a year now and it’s been an incredible experience. I’m looking forward to celebrating with all of my friends who have been so fabulous to work with. I’m going to miss this project, but it will always be a source of pride for me and i will treasure having been a part of it.”

On Friday, March 25th, Fazzino will visit Fort Lauderdale High School, where he will spend some time with the Brian Fitzgerald’s art students as they continue to make progress on their pop fusion Fort Lauderdale mural. In the evening, he will attend the unveiling of the Dream Catcher mural he has consulted on, created by the talented students at Stranahan High School.

On Saturday afternoon, March 26th, he will host a 3D pop art gallery show at Wentworth Gallery on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale and he will appear again in the evening at the Wentworth Gallery at the Boca Town Center in Boca Raton. He will feature the release of his latest limited edition artwork based on the official Fort Lauderdale Centennial Artwork commissioned last year by the city itself: Celebrating 100 Years of Fort Lauderdale.

On Sunday, March 27th, Fazzino will take part in the Fort Lauderdale Centennial Riverfest, an outdoor street fair and festival taking place from noon to 8pm along the Riverwalk promenade in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. There will be a booth selling his official Centennial posters. Fazzino will be on hand in the afternoon to work with the kids on coloring a huge mural based on his artwork that will later be installed at City Hall. He will join Mayor Jack Seiler onstage for the official Birthday Cake Procession and Cutting Ceremony.

Heather’s line has been expanding over the last year to include more clothing, furniture and artwork. Her exclusive line of puzzles, playing cards, and stationery items for Barnes & Noble has taken off and it’s being sold in stores all across the country. She’s in good company too, sandwiched between pop artists Michael Godard and her father Charles Fazzino. At the NFL Experience I saw all this really cool art by Charles Fazzino. I really liked it, and wanted one for my room so badly. The one that I picked out is about Broadway and I’ve always wanted to go to New York. It’s one of my favorite pictures that I’ve seen. I like how it’s hand painted and that he takes so much time on each. Also, I love how he only makes a certain number of each, I like being able to be one of those few that get one! Another amazing thing about the art is that he uses so many bright and beautiful colors and does make art that is not just there but also is 3D and stands out. It’s was fun to be there and get to see all the art that he has made and get to meet Charles’s staff who are nice and helpful. I can’t wait to have Heartaliciously Broadway hanging in my room!

Titled “Faces of Fort Lauderdale,” the focus of the exhibition will be a series of ten multi-layered plexiglass sculptures, each representing a person froma different decade in Fort Lauderdale history. I spent many months creating these ten people…ten ordinary people, each of whom has a story to tell about life in Fort Lauderdale. I have spent so much time with them, they are like real people to me. There’s Gustavo the orange grove picker and LeRoy Dixie the jazz man; There’s Rhonda Shapiro the snowbird artist from New York, Austin Wentworth the real estate developer and more. I hope you have a chance to get to know them as well as I do.

The complete exhibition actually wasn’t fully completed until about a week ago. The last piece I finished was probably the most ambitious – “Trash Can Sculpture.” It’s mean to be a lifesize piece depicting all of the things that people might have discarded as they fled from the beach in the face of oncoming hurricane cleo in the 1960′s. Each one of the items captures a piece of pop culture and when taken together, they convey the tone of the times in Fort Lauderdale.

I’ve also created a Fort Lauderdale Diorama and several large three-dimensional original paintings, including the original of the official artwork of the Centennial Celebration. I did a lot of experimenting for this collection and I really tried to stretch creatively. I’m proud of the result and I’m honored to be able to share it on such a prestigious stage! I am grateful to everyone at the Museum for putting this together and I hope that you’ll have a chance to see if if you’re in town!
