The 2009 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon

August 31st, 2009

As a National Vice-President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, i receive a monthly report on both the organization’s activities and current research and development. In this month’s report was a plea from MDA President Jerry Weinberg to spread the word about the upcoming telethon….well, i started doing that last week but i thought i’d post another blog to remind everyone just how special the Muscular Dystrophy Association really is.

It seems like almost everyday i hear about someone else that i know being diagnosed with one of the Muscular Dystrophies. Last month, it was my assistant’s doctor. The MDA has been THE consistent force ….. supporting the families affected by these terrible diseases, and raising funds for research so that someday, they will no longer have to do so. I’ve seen their efforts close-up and have worked with them for more than ten years.

The annual Telethon, hosted as always by the incredible Jerry Lewis, will once again air this Labor Day weekend. The broadcast starts Sunday night at 9pm EST. It’s one of the Association’s primary fundraising sources. I will be up at Mohegan Sun for almost a week leading into the Telethon, selling my collection to benefit MDA and unveiling a piece i’ve done especially for Mohegan Sun. Come see us there but even more importantly, tune in to the Telethon..and make a donation…EVERY dollar helps! Thanks so much!

3D Pop Art at Mohegan Sun for MDA

August 25th, 2009

I’m working with Mohegan Sun, the amazing casino and entertainment resort built by the Mohegan Tribe in Connecticut. Mohegan Sun hosts the New York telecast of the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  As part of the celebration, I’m setting up a week-long exhibition of my work on the main concourse of the resort…..also to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We’ll be there September 2nd through the 7th for the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

I’m proud to be a National Vice President of the MDA. It’s an organization that’s close to my heart. I’ve worked with kids stricken with these terrible diseases and i’m always looking for ways to stay involved and to raise funds.

On Sunday night, Mohegan Sun will also host a fantastic event. It’s called “Party with a Purpose” and it’s a huge pre-telethon bash benefitting MDA in their main ballroom…dinner, cocktails, dancing, and more! I’ll be showing my work there too. Tickets to the event are $80. It’s a great cause and we’ll have a great time. Come and join me there! You can buy tickets by calling 203-248-6500 or by visiting the Mohegan Sun Box Office.

Oh…and I almost forgot…i’ll be unveiling a brand new piece created exclusively for Mohegan Sun!

Fazzino Collectors Mailbag – Hello from Cleveland!

July 28th, 2009

I received an email from my attorney…ok…so he’s not “technically” a collector…but he sure has my work on his walls! :-) He’s in Cleveland with his son and took a tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They came across the guitar i painted for “Guitarmania,” a public arts project sponsored by the Hall in Cleveland in 2003.

I remember getting the call from the Hall..they asked me to paint a seven-foot tall guitar. I said “huh?” thinking it was a joke…but within a week, i had this huge guitar sculpture in my studio. They said “paint whatever you want…” ….so i had some FUN and created what i called “Fazzinopalooza!” The guitar was shipped from my studio back to Cleveland where it was displayed, along with hundreds of others that were spread all over the city. In the end, the guitars were auctioned to raise funds for some very worthwhile charities – United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame retained my guitar for permanent display and that’s where it sits.

Let me know if you ever see it there. I think from the looks of it, you’ll know how much fun i had painting it! Thanks for sharing the picture Josh!

Fazzino Arts for Habitat Event in New Rochelle This Friday!

June 9th, 2009

The American Dreams Event to Raise Funds for Habitat for Humanity

Come Celebrate with us this Friday, June 12th. I, along with CBS anchor Tony Aiello, am hosting an art unveiling, exhibition, cocktail reception in New Rochelle to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. As my good friend Jim Killoran, the head of Habitat here in Westchester County, says….IT’S ALL ABOUT THE HOMES!

Habitat for Humanity does incredible work building AND advocating for affordable housing all over the country! Jim sends a crew to New Orleans several times each year to build homes for those who lost them to Hurricane Katrina. He has building projects going on all over the County.

On June 12th at the Chase Bank on the corners of Lawton and Main Streets in New Rochelle, from 6:30pm – 9:30pm, we’re having a party to celebrate Habitat’s work. There will be an exhibit of my art there and we’ll be unveiling a new work i’ve done just for the city of New Rochelle. There is a suggested donation of $20 to get in and proceeds from poster and art sales will all benefit Habitat.

You can see a great interview Jim did in my studio earlier this week in my website Media Room.

Many of the local businesses are involved and are sponsoring the event. We’ll have great food, great music, and great entertainment…so come join us!

Fazzino Pop Art Violin Auctioned for Westchester Philharmonic

May 19th, 2009

I was actually not able to attend the Westchester Philharmonic Spring Gala last weekend…but i received quite a report. It was a star-studded event, highlighed by a private performance by Maestro Itzhak Perlman. County Executive Andrew Spano spoke about the importance of the arts to the culture of Westchester County and i couldn’t agree more. Here are some pics from the event…. Itzhak Perlman with my violin; CBS’s Tony Aiello (the emcee for the evening) and Westchester Philharmonic Executive Director Josh Worby!
