Charlie Hayes and His Fazzino Baseball

September 23rd, 2009

Remember the great Charlie Hayes? Great style on the field…great guy off the field…solid! Always solid! Caught the last out for the Yankees in the 1996 World Series!

Well, i recently sent one of my 3-D hand-painted, limited edition baseballs to the Yankees for their most recent charity auction. I was later told that Charlie was bidding on the ball and didn’t win it…but he wanted one! So, my staff and I arranged for him to receive one. What a thrill when i received this photograph back from him. Thanks Charlie and thanks for enjoying my work.

Batman contemporary art is a hit….and the glitter too!

June 1st, 2009

I made my first appearance for Choice Collectibles over the weekend. They have exclusively commissioned me to do a limited edition celebrating the 70th anniversary of Batman. The piece was a little bit of a challenge. It took me awhile to meld the dark ominous feeling of Gotham with my standard color palette. I’m very happy with the way the piece came out and it was very well-received at the show.

I find that when i do shows in places for the first time, i am asked a lot of questions by collectors that i haven’t fielded in awhile. This weekend, the big question, was where i got the idea to use the glitter in all my pieces. Well, i’ll share a little secret with you. It was a mistake! Many years ago, i bought some glue and glitter to cover up a cutting mistake i made in one of my pieces…i used the glue to cover the crack and then added some colored glitter to it to hide the glue. People LOVED it…so, that’s how my use of glitter was born…i found the glitter i used now which is actually glitter already suspended in acrylic paint and i started using it to embellish all of my images. It’s worked out great and contributes to the “glitz” of my artwork. Sometimes making mistakes is a good thing!

Fazzino Paints the Alzheimer’s Association Forget-Me-Not Gala

May 28th, 2009

David Hyde Pierce Will Host This Year’s Alzheimer’s Association Gala at the Pierre Hotel in New York

I’ll be at the annual Alzheimer’s Association, NYC Chapter’s “Forget-Me-Not” gala on Monday, June 1 at the Pierre Hotel. I have created an official artwork for the event that will be auctioned to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care and research. I’ve blogged about this insidious disease before and how it affects so many millions of people in this country and abroad. I’ve been personally touched, as both my father and grandmother succumed to the disease. Alzheimer’s Disease can be classified as an epidemic…and there IS no cure. Every 70 seconds someone in the US develops the disease…so i urge you to join me…in whatever way you can…monetarily (donate $$)…or physically (help someone who has the disease or someone supporting someone who does)….to support those who live with this nightmare day in and day out…and to help work towards effective treatments and cures.

I created the official artwork for the gala ….A Walk in the Park….to symbolize the cycle of life. The Tree of life at its core sympbolizes how life starts and ends ….and all the phases in between. It’s my hope that someday, this disease will simply be a walk in the park, marked only by temporary and/or minimal impairment for the victims AND their loved ones.

Thank you!

Fazzino Pop Art Violin Auctioned for Westchester Philharmonic

May 19th, 2009

I was actually not able to attend the Westchester Philharmonic Spring Gala last weekend…but i received quite a report. It was a star-studded event, highlighed by a private performance by Maestro Itzhak Perlman. County Executive Andrew Spano spoke about the importance of the arts to the culture of Westchester County and i couldn’t agree more. Here are some pics from the event…. Itzhak Perlman with my violin; CBS’s Tony Aiello (the emcee for the evening) and Westchester Philharmonic Executive Director Josh Worby!
