A friend of mine recently sent me the website for pop artist, Greg Frederick. I was fascinated. His work is a living, breathing example of the fact that “the medium is the message.” Art is subject matter. Art is emotion. Art is composition. And art is also medium. Greg creates pop art portraits out of recycled materials including broken vinyl records and the associated packaging. Inspired by both pop art and street art, Greg effectively melds both styles in a collection of compelling and cohesive portraits. He recently caught the attention of rocker Courtney Love and has been commissioned to create artwork for her latest concert tour product line.

Greg’s Fantastic Vinyl Pop Art

Take a look at Greg Frederick’s website. It’s fun….especially the time lapse videos showing him creating murals inspired by his street art idols. I’m impressed with how Greg has created a collection of pop art images created out of pop culture objects to make a clear statement about our musical and entertainment history.
