The Fazzinos….together at Barnes & Noble

March 9th, 2010

Heather and I will be signing our pop art puzzles together at the Barnes & Noble Store on 86th Street in New York City this Saturday, March 13th. We’ll be autographing puzzles, book marks, journals, and whatever else we can find :-) Barnes & Noble has been featuring my line and Heather’s Crook Couture line for more than a year and both have been a great success. We’re proud of the products and proud to be associated with B&N….it’s one of my FAVORITE places to browse. I can get stuck in there for hours at a time!

We’ll be at the 86th Street location. For more details and for info on my other upcoming appearances, you can check out the appearances page on my website.

Come See Us!

Fazzino Pop Art Tour with Michael Godard Kicks Off in Houston

February 24th, 2010

Last weekend, i was at Off the Wall Gallery in Houston, Texas to kick off a new tour i’m doing. It’s a two man show titled “The Legends of Pop Art: The Next Generation” and pairs my artwork with that of painter Michael Godard. It was a great success and i have to tell you….Michael Godard is the nicest guy! What a great heart! His art and mine really work together fantastically in a gallery setting. We’re both fun…colorful…whimsical…and pop! Interestingly enough, despite Michael’s reference to us being “twins separated at birth” on one of our television interviews, i think it’s fairly obvious from the picture below that we come off on opposite ends of the spectrum. He has a tremendous wit and is quick on his feet. I guess you would describe me as a more “classic” sort…but we had a great time together and i am honored to be touring with him.

Make sure you catch our next appearance together at R Roberts Gallery in Jacksonville and in April, we’ll be at the Russell Collection Gallery in Austin, TX. You can get all the details on http://www.fazzino.com/appearances.htm. We’ll be showing the collaborative artwork we created together…you can see it below. It’s an original painting and a limited edition. And the galleries will be full of hundreds of our creations. Hope to see you there!

Rock On! :-)

Pop Art Updates from Super Bowl XLIV

February 7th, 2010

It’s been a whirlwind this week down in Miami, where i’m making appearances for Super Bowl XLIV. I’ve done two cigar humidor signings, two national television interviews, a couple of local television interviews, two gallery shows, and i just finished a poster signing at the President’s Dinner at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino/Hotel - a fantastic event!

But the most important appearance i’ve made so far was yesterday, when i did the CBS Early Show with Indianapolis Colts Wide Receiver Pierre Garcon. Pierre, a Hatian-American, started a foundation – Helping Hands – to help those in need in his native country of Haiti. When the disastrous earthquake victimized the country last month, the work of Pierre’s foundation became that much more important. He and I have teamed up to raise money for the relief effort. We have both autographed  one of my hand-painted, 3-D Super Bowl XLIV helmets and it is currently being auctioned on ebay with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Helping Hands. Take a look and bid generously!

Thanks,

Charles

3D Pop Art for the Crimson Tide!

January 13th, 2010

Football-Alabama-Crimson-Tide-National-Champions-MED

So, my winning streak continues. People tell me i have a knack for picking winners. At the BEGINNING of the 2008 NFL season, i was contemplating which teams to release limited editions for. I decided to do the New England Patriots and a new NY Giants edition. Well, guess who was in the Super Bowl that year! Back in 1996, I did my first Yankees edition. Guess who won the World Series in 1996? In 2003, I released “Red Sox Fever.” Guess who won the World Series in 2004???

Well, now it’s the Alabama Crimson Tide’s turn to benefit from the Fazzino pop art magic touch! Almost a year ago, Steiner Sports approached me about doing an edition on the Crimson Tide. That’s how long the artwork has been in development. Steiner released the edition about four months ago. Well….GUESS who just won the National Championship? So, if you’re a Crimson Tide fan…and I know you’re all over the country…I’ve heard from many of you…I hope you’ll appreciate this limited edition.

If you’re interested in it, visit SteinerSports.com or call them at 800-759-SCORE!

I’m Judging the New Rochelle Council’s Spring Exhibition

December 18th, 2009

Utopioptix

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts was formed in 1975 and it’s just one of thousands of local arts councils throughout the country that are at the grassroots of supporting and promoting the arts in local communities. They recently asked me to be one of the judges for their upcoming Spring Exhibition. I accepted with honor. Those of you who read this blog know that i am a big proponent of Arts Education and i see my involvement in events like this one as an extension of that. I’m really looking forward to it.

Of course, this means that the New Rochelle Council is also accepting entries for this contest NOW. The deadline for entries is January 1sst and the subject is “Utopioptix: Visions of the Future Then and Now.” You can visit the New Rochelle Council Website for the whole prospectus and information about how to enter. The First Prize will be $500 and the Second Prize will be $250. I encourage all the local artists out there to enter…you never know!

Good Luck!

Fazzino and 3D Pop Art in London

October 13th, 2009

Hello from London! Arrived here on Sunday and leaving in the AM for Paris. I’m here for a showing of my 3d pop art at Art London and while here, I took the opportunity to go to the Pop Art Life exhibit at the Tate Modern. The exhibit has been causing a stir all over the world and now I know why.

First off, Art London was a great experience. I loved it! It reminded me of what Art Expo New York was like ten years ago. Very slick….a lot of wonderful artwork…not a lot of “art” that you had to stand around, think about, and pretend to like….like the telephone/office exhibit I blogged about last week. Peter Blake’s Art Bus stood outside to welcome everyone and the mix of art was thoughtful, fun, and even a little bit daring…but not too avant-garde to be appreciated. I actually met quite a few people who were familiar with my work but even more fun was to watch all of the people who had never seen it before. I went out on a bit of a limb, concentrating more on my original paintings and 3d pop art dioramas than on the limited edition artwork that most people are used to. I heard a lot of “oohs” and “aahhhs” and I was pretty excited about the response. I’m trying to get these “special” pieces out there and Art London was really the first opportunity I’ve had to do so. It was encouraging and certainly motivated me to create even more!

After Art London, it was off to the Tate Modern. Wow! So, even before I went, I read another review of the show…this one from the Wall Street Journal. What a contradiction! The article is a total condemnation of “shock artists” like Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons who, under the guise of “artists,” sensationalize and exploit, catering to the lowest common denominator and playing on people’s tendencies to be attracted to extremes. The reason their artwork gets so much attention is the same reason we all slow down when we pass a car wreck. We shake our heads but can’t help staring and gawking anyway. But it’s the controversial character of the work that makes it viable for a TATE MODERN EXHIBITION! Sometimes, I just don’t get it.

I was happy to see that the same writer did, although briefly, mentioned a different “strain” of pop art – the mainstream, as far as I’m concerned…the strain I aspire to be a part of….Lichtenstein, Oldenburg, Grooms, Haring, etc. This is MY pop art world. This is where I want to fit into art history.

So, I went to the Tate and even I was shocked! Many of the “works,” if that’s what you call them were more graphic than anything you’d ever see in a peep parlor or adult bookstore. The tension among the viewers was incredible. You could feel the level of embarrassment. The three old ladies in front of me almost choked on their dentures. Now I’m no prude…but really…is this REALLY what museums have to show these days? I guess it’s all about selling tickets. Maybe I should go out and stage a car wreck…blood and guts and all…and then sell tickets to anyone who wants to drive past. I’m still shaking my head.

Well…on to Paris!

Fazzino Original Sketch Auction to Benefit MDA

September 21st, 2009

On the heels of the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, we wanted to keep the fundraising efforts going for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. So, we asked Charles to give us one of his sketches from the sketchbook he travels with to auction off. We’ve posted drawings from the sketchbook before on this blog, so you might already know that he keeps it with him all the time….drawing new ideas…doodling…experiment, etc. We asked him if we could auction one of the sketches and he gave us the one below.

It’s pictured below and is created with acid-free pigmented ink from Japanese Zig Markers. Some of the highlights were done with regular ballpoint pen. The piece measures 8.5″ x 11″ and will come fully framed with a personal dedication on the back from Charles Fazzino.

Here’s the way the auction will work. We will accept bids until 12:00 noon on Sunday, October 4th. The minimum bid is $2,000 and the sketch will be awarded to the highest bidder. It’s a blind auction so you will not know what others have bid until the auction has ended. In the event that more than one person places the winning bid, a random drawing will be held to determine the buyer who has the right to purchase the sketch. In that case, runners-up will be given second chance offers to purchase other available Fazzino original sketches.

50% of the proceeds from the sale of this sketch will benefit the Muscular Dystophy Association.

Please email all bids and questions to us at info@fazzinocollectors.com

Thank you and happy bidding!

3D Pop Art Pinball Machine

September 18th, 2009

Kevin, an old friend and pinball machine manufacturer, contacted me on facebook earlier this month. In the early 1990’s i was asked to paint a pinball machine for the PAPA 3 International Pinball Championships. Now THAT was a challenge. I almost didn’t even remember doing it until i received the message from Kevin. After the event, my pinball machine, titled “I’ll Play Manhattan” was auctioned off to benefit the NY Special Olympics. I don’t even remember where it ended up. It was great fun to see the pictures after all these years! You can see more of what Kevin does by visiting his website at http://www.classicpinball.com.

Thanks Kevin!

I was on the Telethon this Morning

September 7th, 2009

Today is our last day at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. We’ve had the artwork up for 6 days now and have been selling to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Last night, I attended the MDA pre-telethon gala and signed posters for the gala guests.

This morning, i appeared on the NY regional broadcast of the MDA Telethon. We rolled the tote board and talked to some donors. There’s an inspirational feel in that room today….watching the board change…hearing the stories of so many people who are affected by Muscular Dystrophy.

It’s gratifying to be able to use my artwork as a vehicle to raise money for those in need…but sometimes it’s overwhelming…there is so much need. But all we can do is try to cure the diseases and support the families….one dollar at a time.

Happy Labor Day!

–Charles
