Super Bowl 3D Thursday

Highlight for today…..spent the morning at the WISH-TV set at The Huddle in the Super Bowl Village. Andi Hauser, the host of Indy Style, was very excited to see my artwork and the studio audience was equally excited. I even had the opportunity to meet singer/songwriter Edwin McCain who was appearing on the show after me. What a nice guy. Then it was off to the NFL Experience to sign more posters and artwork.

Tomorrow, join me at The Huddle for my interactive art workshop … i’ll be working with everyone who turns out, children and adults alike, to create a special Super Bowl XLVI artwork. My artwork and original helmets will all be on display and i’ll even sign a few posters! Hope to see you there!

Super Bowl 3D Wednesday

Another whirlwind day in Indy….started the morning with a before-sunrise appearance on WRTV – 6. Welcomed by hosts Chris Pisano and Grace Trahan and did a great spot with them with Lucas Oil Stadium looming in the darkness behind us. It was EARLY…but we had a great time and everyone was in good spirits. Then it was on to the NFL Experience….signed lots of posters and mini prints and met a lot of people…some of whom knew my work and many of whom were seeing it for the first time. I love that.

Tomorrow, there’s more television and another stint at the NFL Experience. Will post more pics tomorrow. Have a good night everybody!

Giants Star Victor Cruz Helped Me Unveil the Super Bowl Artwork

Last night was amazing! We held the formal unveiling of my artwork for Super Bowl XLVI last night at a wonderful Puerto Rican restaurant in New York called Sofrito. Giants’ Wide Receiver Victor Cruz was gracious enough to join me the day after the team’s incredible victory over the Green Bay Packers. He didn’t dance the salsa for us, but he’s ready to bust a move next Sunday in the end zone against the San Francisco 49ers. NBC Sportscaster Bruce Beck served as our emcee and Miss Teen USA Danielle Doty added some beauty to our group

I’m looking forward to seeing Victor in action this Sunday…and hopefully (sorry to my San Fran collectors), i will be replacing the NFC logo in the artwork with that of the New York Giants.

My cousin sent me a link to this blog post on a site called The Unexpected Pit Bull a couple of days ago. The blogger, Jeannette Louis Smith profiled the pop art paintings of artist Dean Russo. I just LOVE them, so thought i would share. Dean’s work is wonderfully colorful and vibrant and uplifting…he sends a wonderful message about this often mis-understood breed. I hope you enjoy them!

A Gigantic Fazzino Pop Art Installation for American Airlines

Last week saw the culmination of a six-month project for me and my staff. We finally saw the installation of the 3-D pop art mural NY IS….THE WIND BENEATH OUR WINGS in the American Airlines Terminal at JFK International Airport. What a process! It all started more than a year ago when I unveiled my first artwork for the Terminal, a 40” x 50” original of the poster artwork I created called American Airlines: A Legacy of Service to New York City. I was at the unveiling with my good friend Joann Camuti and we started talking about other ways my work could be utilized to decorate the terminal. Well, admittedly, I’ve gone a little bit wild since then, installing six more pieces and I have a few more on the way. But the centerpiece of the project was this 13’ x 11’ mural we installed last week.

This was, by far, the largest work I’ve ever completed and at first, I was stumped about how I was going to pull it off. My staff and I spent weeks brainstorming the project, figuring out all of the details of how we were going to create this massive 3-D work. It ended up being done in 3 separate panels, each one cut, assembled, and embellished by hand in my new working art studio. Each cut out piece had to be molded, coated, cut, and fit to size. Then we applied all of the Swarovski Crystals and built the mobile elements out of paper and hanging wire.

The installation itself was quite a project…a cherry picker, three installers, and two artists. I can’t say enough “thank you’s” to Joe Daley, Elizabeth Arena and their staff!! Because of the way the panels were situated, we actually had to apply some of the 3-D elements while the panels were being installed so we could position them properly to cover the creases between them. The installation took two full days to complete. We are currently putting a video together to show you the process in more detail. I hope to have that ready to post next week. In the meantime, if you happen to be flying American Airlines through JFK International Airport, take a look for my mural…..and let me know what you think.
