“I love my country with all my heart. I take pride as an American knowing that, at this country’s core, it can be home for anyone from any walk of life, and as a New Yorker, this sentiment feels even more validating, given how culturally diverse New York City is. It’s difficult to veer away from politics, especially in art, and even more so when the art is about celebrating one’s nation, but when I made this artwork, I was not just trying to commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States of America; I made this artwork to celebrate my country’s core values: unity and freedom.
