The Golden Gate Bridge…in Toothpicks!

I’m always on the lookout for new and innovative ways artists express themselves so when my staff told me about Steven J. Backman’s amazing toothpick art, I had to take a look. Steven is a San Francisco native who has been creating toothpick art for nearly 40 years. He started sculpting with toothpicks as an elementary school student and his love of his craft still fuels a passion for creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

Steven recently restored a replica of the Golden Gate Bridge he made from 30,000 toothpicks and glue. Measuring thirteen feet in length, his homage to San Francisco’s most famous landmark will be on view at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco¬† thru May 30th, 2012. May also marks the 75th Anniversary celebration of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Great job, Steven!
