Exploring the Vibrant World of Fazzino’s Jewish Art

The Inspiration Behind the Collection

With having created such a beautiful collection of Jewish art, it may surprise you to know that Charles Fazzino is not Jewish himself. As a New Yorker and graduate of the School of Visual Arts on the lower east side, Fazzino found himself surrounded by the Jewish culture and drew inspiration from the people, food, festivals, and traditions he came to know and love.

Celebrating the Jewish Culture Through Art

While attending school on the Lower East Side of NYC, Fazzino began painting the city scenes, buildings, and people that surrounded him and, as these gained popularity, he made it a priority to learn more about the culture. Some of the first gallery owners to sell Fazzino’s work were also Jewish and, he explains, they taught him even more. “As my enthusiasm for the culture grew, and my Jewish collector base grew, I painted more and more images that would resonate with them. And they are some of the works of which I am most proud,” Fazzino explains.

Honoring Jewish Heritage and Traditions

Fazzino’s vibrant pieces intricately weave Jewish symbols and rituals into his distinctive style, reflecting his genuine appreciation for the culture. Through his work, Fazzino invites a broader audience to engage with and celebrate the richness of Jewish heritage, demonstrating the universal power of art to bridge cultural boundaries and foster understanding.

After The Darkness

Initially created for The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County, “After the Darkness” is a compelling look at the life and the hope that arose from the ashes of the Holocaust. It evokes the gloom and suffering of the times, and yet blooms into a celebration of the resilience, the love, and the light that we hold onto as the legacy of such a dark period in history. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this edition benefit HMTC and other Holocaust museums and centers throughout the country.

Fahklumpt And Famisched in this Meshugenah City… NYC

One of Fazzino’s favorite subjects to paint are  the restaurants and Deli’s on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. “While in school, I just fell in love with the Jewish Deli’s. There’s nothing like a pastrami sandwich from Katz’s Deli,” claims Fazzino. These were also among his first NYC creations and they were very popular. Fazzino return to this theme again and again. In this release, we find the always-present Katz’s Deli along with the dancing hot dog and bagel, and some unusual characters like Spiderman and the Fiddler on the Roof. “I love everything about the Lower East Side… the sounds, the foods, the culture.”
