In my latest E-Newsletter, I asked you why you like the MLB All-Star Game. Of course, I'm giving away a few posters for your answers. I am surprised by some of the truly inspirational responses I have received. One is posted below. You can read more of them in the Member's Lounge. This one's from Steven…..
I have seen every All Star game going back to the early 1950's. My parents have had season
tickets for the NY Yankees since the early 1940's. There is no game better then baseball and no
better place to see a game than the House That Ruth Built. As a child I was fortunate enough to live 3 blocks
from the stadium and have the fondest memories of going to every game I could straight from school.
There will always be a special place in my heart for the old stadium especially
since the new stadium is being built right on top of my old high school home field.
It was appropriately named Babe Ruth Field.
I would be proud to hang this piece on my wall especially since it was done by
Mr. Fazzino. My wife and I have collected his artwork for many years and now
have approximately 10 of his pieces hanging at both my daughters
home and our home. Please consider this request it would mean a lot to me.
I never miss an all star game, it's being held at the
best stadium on earth and I am a fan of Mr. Fazzino's work.
It would be like winning the trifecta!

Ok, so i promised more “dish” on the Daytime Emmy Awards. I have a secret for you. Turns out that all the action at these awards shows actually happens in the restrooms! Security confiscated ever
yone's cameras at the entrance to the Kodak Theatre …. we all snuck them in (including Joy Philbin, by the way). At one point, my daughter and I went to the restroom. I was just saying to Heather, “I would love to see Rachel Ray and have a picture taken with her,” when who comes out of the ladies room? Of course! Rachel Ray! Did we have a camera? No….left it at the table!. I love Rachel Ray…her cooking show…her book…and her FOOD. Then Heather saw Tony Geary from General Hospital. She wanted to take a picture from him but he ran into….well…the men's room! Then Heather and I got back to the table and Helen (the gallery owner with us) tells us that she had just gone into a different ladies room and ran right into Ellen DeGeneres! Did she have a camera??? Of course, she did. She got a great picture with Ellen. We were jealous. Heather and I are obviously paparazzi novices.
We sat right behind Regis and Joy Philbin and could have tapped Regis in the back of the head, but he was flanked by Joy on one side, some other guy on the other, and a railing behind him. I don't think he wanted to be disturbed….sort of like Barbara Walters. She was there too which reminded me of how I flew back to New York on a plane next to her after last year's Daytime Emmys. She REALLY doesn't like to be bothered….wouldn't even look at or respond to the stewardesses on the plane. Oh well.
Did you know that there are 7 judge shows on television? SEVEN! And all 7 of them were there….and the others didn't really look all that “Just” when Judge Cristina Perez won her award. So much for judges and the moral high ground.
Well, we had a great time and it's always fun to spend some time in a world you get to watch but are rarely a part of. Can't wait unti next year!

So, I went to my third Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony on Friday night out in Los Angeles. I did the cover art for the event program for the third year in a row. We had a lot of fun. I took my da
ughter and one of my gallery owners and we had a great time. We sat at one of the tables on the floor with my friends (hi Joann!) from American Airlines RIGHT behind Regis Philbin! He was being honored and we actually got to watch the back of his head all night long. It's amazing the way that people flip over their daytime television favorites. We got out of the car at the red carpet and the crowds were amazing…screaming and yelling. Personally, I'm a big Oprah fan…how about you?
I'm on my way back from LA today. Maybe I'll post more pictures from Friday night later in the week.

I got an email from Norman Small yesterday. He titled it “How it all Happened”
Ok, so I'm going to New York to see my umpteenth Broadway show in the early 90's.
Taking the obligatory stroll in Times Square and pass this art store with this
HUGE piece celebrating Broadway theatre. You mean an artist loves Broadway as much as I do?
Staring now. What is
this? Who is this?
Losing my breath over this and I'm not even in a theatre.
There's more in the window. In the store. On the walls.
Never heard of this guy. Didn't matter. Fell in love.
Bought one. Got my breath back.
There are now three more hannging on my walls now,
but I still lose my breath when I look in that window.
I was very taken with Norman's email. I grew up in a suburb of New York City and one of the most exciting things was getting on the train to NYC to see a Broadway show. I have been painting Broadway for more than 25 years….and I still can't get enough of it. I look at the whole collection now…it's sort of a history of what Broadway has looked like over that time. I actually had a chance to put the whole collection together for the first time….for a one-night exhibition at the Minskoff Theater hosted by Audience Rewards. It was very cool to see all of the pieces together in one place. I hope that my art gives you the chance to take a little piece of Broadway home with you.
Thank you Norman for your very thoughtful email. Your sentiments are exactly why I do what I do.
You can check out what my friends at Audience Rewards are doing by visiting their website at
http://www.audiencerewards.com/. I also created an exclusive Broadway mini print for them.

I recently had the chance to see the Red Grooms exhibit at the Hudson River Museum here in Yonkers, NY. I first saw his work about twenty years ago at an exhibition inside Manhattan's Gran
d Central Station. I was amazed by the scale of his pieces. They reminded my of my own pieces but they were huge – life size actually, and in sculpture form. You could walk right into them. I've loved his work ever since. The closest I have come so far to creating that kind of feel with my work was a project I completed for the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. My original works were incorporated into the design of a new Childrens' wing with big sculptures, furniture, and architecture…all based on my art. I'd love to do more of that.
Here are some links you can explore:
