I recently had the honor of creating a very special wedding ketubah for one of my collectors – Jaime Perla. I had never done anything like this before when she asked me and i thought long and hard about how to make it incredibly special for her. Jaime provided me with a list of all that is special to her and her husband (fiance at the time). It turned out to be a wonderfully personal keepsake…one i hope they treasure for the rest of their lives.
It was recently featured in a segment on the WE Network’s “Platinum Weddings” television show. Click on the link below or you can watch it in my Virtual Media Room.

I received an email from my attorney…ok…so he’s not “technically” a collector…but he sure has my work on his walls!
He’s in Cleveland with his son and took a tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They came across the guitar i painted for “Guitarmania,” a public arts project sponsored by the Hall in Cleveland in 2003.
I remember getting the call from the Hall..they asked me to paint a seven-foot tall guitar. I said “huh?” thinking it was a joke…but within a week, i had this huge guitar sculpture in my studio. They said “paint whatever you want…” ….so i had some FUN and created what i called “Fazzinopalooza!” The guitar was shipped from my studio back to Cleveland where it was displayed, along with hundreds of others that were spread all over the city. In the end, the guitars were auctioned to raise funds for some very worthwhile charities – United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame retained my guitar for permanent display and that’s where it sits.
Let me know if you ever see it there. I think from the looks of it, you’ll know how much fun i had painting it! Thanks for sharing the picture Josh!

So, i’ve been waiting to blog about my trip to Pori until i have the picture i took with the President of Finland…but…well…nobody has emailed it to me yet…and there’s a funny story as to why i don’t have it on my own camera. More on that later….
My mom and I went to Pori, Finland last week to attend the Pori Jazz Festival where my work was being featured as the official festival artwork. I had my own gallery for three weeks right on “Jazz Street” and it was an incredible experience. First of all, i experienced the “midnight sun” for the first time. It’s awesome if you’ve never experienced it before. It was light out almost 24-hours a day! We still needed to put on sunblock at 10:30 at night! By midnight, the sun would soften a little bit but it never got completely dark. From what i understand, the Finns pay for it in the wintertime when there are only a few hours of daylight. It gets pitch black by 2:30 in the afternoon….probably one of the reasons for the high depression-rate there. But the summers are incredible.
The festival was hopping! Pori is a relatively small city and it’s size quadrouples during the time of the Jazz Festival. I actually did get out of the gallery to hear some of the music….I saw Booker T. Jones and heard (but didn’t see) Erykah Badu. Duffy was the featured performer and she flew in and out on her own private jet. But some of the best music was heard right on the streets under the tents that lined Jazz Street. They played 24/7 throughout the festival….a lot of techno music…really cool.
Literally thousands of people walked through our two-story gallery on Jazz Street. Mom, being a Finn, was so proud
For me, it was like in the early days of my career…most of the people had never seen my work before and they seemed to be really interested and taken with the colors and the style. I did a lot of explaining….how i do my work…how i got started…where you can see my work…all of it. It was a lot of fun.
But of course, the highlight was the visit to the gallery by Tarja Halonen, the President of Finland. I had been told a few days earlier that she was aware of my work and was coming to Pori for the festival and that she wanted to stop by the gallery. But nobody told us exactly when she would be arriving. Wouldn’t you know it….not 5 minutes after i returned to my hotel room one evening, i received a call that the President was on her way. I had to sprint from my hotel back to the gallery, sneak around the secret service, and race her limo down the street so that I was in the gallery before she arrived. Of COURSE, i forgot my camera back in the hotel room…hence…the need to wait for someone in Finland to email me the picture before i can show it to you. President Halonen was very gracious and spent more than a half hour with us, touring the entire gallery. It was an incredible honor for me…and for my mother!
All in all, it was a successful trip and a wonderful project to have been a part of. I felt like i had finally done something i’ve waited my whole life to do – make somewhat of a name for myself and my artwork in my mother’s homeland. So many people were exposed to the work and were excited to see it. It was an awesome experience! Of course, the photo of us with the President is yet to come!

Well, i just got back this afternoon from Pori, Finland where we had a great exhibition….I even met the President of Finland….more on that later…with Pictures!
But even before we get to Finland, I want to congratulate one of my long-time representatives in NORWAY. Gallery Albin Upp, a wonderful gallery in Oslo, recently held an exhibition to celebrate ten years of exhibiting my work. They were the first in Scandinavia to show my work and i made my first appearance there ten years ago. I can’t believe it was that long ago.
The Public Affairs Officer from the US Embassy attended the show and was presented with one of my works by my Norwegian representative, Olav Holm.
So, if you ever get to Oslo, make sure you visit Gallery Albin Upp – Kunstcompagniet!

I arrived in St. Louis yesterday for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game festivities. The city is definitely all decked out and ready! There are baseball commemorative sculptures in the shape of the St. Louis Arch planted all over the city. They are being sold to benefit the St. Louis Sports Commission.
Tonight, I’ll be at Jon’s Pipe Shop painting Romeo Y Julieta Limited Edition Humidors featuring my work. I’m looking forward to that because i meet some of the nicest and most interesting people when i do these cigar signings. The shop is in Clayton, MO and the signing is from 4pm – 7pm.
Tomorrow and Saturday, I’ll be at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game Fanfest at the America’s Center in downtown St. Louis. Fanfest is this huge interactive baseball “theme park” that MLB sets up in the All-Star Game city. It’s a great way for people who don’t necessarily have tickets to the all star game itself to take part in all the festivities. You can get more information and order tickets at www.allstargame.com.
Friday night, I’ll be hosting an art reception at Wentworth Gallery in Des Peres. I hope to see many of you there. Wentworth always puts on a first class show and they have my entire collection on display.
Meet you in St. Louis! –Charles

My friend Christian Baehr recently commissioned me to paint a 3′-4′ diameter apple sculpture with a New York/Broadway theme. All went well until we shipped the final sculpture to him. We crated the sculpture and it arrived at his doorstep in Germany safely …. but…well…it wouldn’t fit through his front door! All was not lost because Christian is a very resourceful man. He had the piece lifted through a second story window…he sent us these pictures to share the experience. I thought it was very cool!
