As a National Vice-President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, i receive a monthly report on both the organization’s activities and current research and development. In this month’s report was a plea from MDA President Jerry Weinberg to spread the word about the upcoming telethon….well, i started doing that last week but i thought i’d post another blog to remind everyone just how special the Muscular Dystrophy Association really is.
It seems like almost everyday i hear about someone else that i know being diagnosed with one of the Muscular Dystrophies. Last month, it was my assistant’s doctor. The MDA has been THE consistent force ….. supporting the families affected by these terrible diseases, and raising funds for research so that someday, they will no longer have to do so. I’ve seen their efforts close-up and have worked with them for more than ten years.
The annual Telethon, hosted as always by the incredible Jerry Lewis, will once again air this Labor Day weekend. The broadcast starts Sunday night at 9pm EST. It’s one of the Association’s primary fundraising sources. I will be up at Mohegan Sun for almost a week leading into the Telethon, selling my collection to benefit MDA and unveiling a piece i’ve done especially for Mohegan Sun. Come see us there but even more importantly, tune in to the Telethon..and make a donation…EVERY dollar helps! Thanks so much!

I’m working with Mohegan Sun, the amazing casino and entertainment resort built by the Mohegan Tribe in Connecticut. Mohegan Sun hosts the New York telecast of the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As part of the celebration, I’m setting up a week-long exhibition of my work on the main concourse of the resort…..also to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We’ll be there September 2nd through the 7th for the Labor Day Holiday weekend.
I’m proud to be a National Vice President of the MDA. It’s an organization that’s close to my heart. I’ve worked with kids stricken with these terrible diseases and i’m always looking for ways to stay involved and to raise funds.
On Sunday night, Mohegan Sun will also host a fantastic event. It’s called “Party with a Purpose” and it’s a huge pre-telethon bash benefitting MDA in their main ballroom…dinner, cocktails, dancing, and more! I’ll be showing my work there too. Tickets to the event are $80. It’s a great cause and we’ll have a great time. Come and join me there! You can buy tickets by calling 203-248-6500 or by visiting the Mohegan Sun Box Office.
Oh…and I almost forgot…i’ll be unveiling a brand new piece created exclusively for Mohegan Sun!

Come Join Us!
From September 3rd through September 7th, I will be setting up an exhibition of my work on the main concourse

I haven’t blogged about my daughter’s art collection yet….but i just have to do it now. I’m so proud of her. To make a long story short, she started a new style of painting late last year and launched her own design company called Crook Couture. She wants to be a fashion designer…of course, i encouraged her to paint also…so, she’s created an incredible collection of original paintings, limited edition giclees, and…of course….T-shirts.
We showed her work at Art Expo and it was very well-received. So well, in fact, that Barnes & Noble has picked up her line of puzzles and is planning a back to school line with her artwork. She was featured in an article in Art World News in the Spring and has showings in galleries all over the world. In fact, when we opened the Poriginal Gallery in Pori, Finland during the Pori Jazz Festival, her work sold before mine!!! I had mixed feelings about THAT
.
I’m not sure where she’ll end up with the work, but the progress has been astonishing to me. Here’s an excerpt from here biography:
“Full of balance, and seemingly tribal in feel and origin, Heather Lee’s designs reflect the pathos of much of today’s youth – a fierce, almost primitive need to express emotion combined with a free-flowing and intricate sensitivity. Contemporary at their core, yet reminiscent of the ancient arts, Heather Lee’s work evokes a strong emotional response, combining the tribal feel of Keith Haring with the simplistic iconic imagery of Romero Britto or Takashi Murakami.”
Take a look at her website and let me know what YOU think. My opinion’s a little biased

I recently received an email from Stephanie:
This past Christmas my family and I received a Fazzino NYC puzzle from my aunt who works for Andrews + Blaine Ltd. (the company that produces all the awesome puzzles). I, being the puzzle do-er, scooped up the gift. 2,000 pieces was a lot of puzzle to take on, so I enlisted the help of my puzzle-happy friends. My friends and I graduated college in May ‘07 with two of us starting jobs in NYC and the other two taking graduate courses. It’s long been our dream to move into NYC together.
So how does a NYC apartment connect to a puzzle? Well, let me fill you in on the missing piece. Us Jersey girls would get together for “puzzle night” aka involving ice cream, tv, chatting and of course the Fazzino puzzle! Thus was born..the NYC apartment puzzle.
We would be in awe of the detail of Fazzino’s work. (My personal favorite being the people in a variety of acts in the apartment windows.) We would work together on different sections and tag team buildings. Then, the next day I would go into work in NYC and see the same building I was working on the night before. The puzzle and real life building were creepily identical. Even more, I’d be reading an article about a NYC building and only knew about that building from putting together my puzzle.
The puzzle brought together my friends, my knowledge of NYC, and my NYC sense of direction. My friends and I will hang the puzzle in our NYC apartment..now all we need is the apartment. Bring on more puzzles Andrews + Blaine Ltd.!!!!
Thanks again!!
Stephanie
Thanks Stephanie….Andrews & Blaine has done a fabulous job with my artwork. And for those who wan tto see the whole puzzle collection, visit Barnes and Noble online. There are even more designs coming out in the Fall.
